Outlet store on the Sontplein not allowed to sell everything

The large new outlet store on the Sontplein in Groningen is not allowed to sell part of its range. As a result, the official opening was delayed.
The Maxx XXXL is in the former Praxis building, and according to the municipality the zoning plan for the site only allows goods in the categories ‘DIY stores’ and ‘garden centre’ to be sold there.
The shop had to take part of its range off the shelves in a hurry. Part of the shop also had to be screened off from shoppers. Work on this continued late into Wednesday evening.
The municipality inspected the outlet store once more on Thursday morning, just before the opening. The shop was due to open at 9.00, but that became about ten minutes later.
